I had to pull myself away from the site to post it. This is a site that primarily sells original stereos, however their gallery is excellent.  Lots of categories to choose from, be sure to check out the humor images.   I’d kill to go to England and dig through this collection!

A bit on the morbid side, but it’s getting on into that season!  View the original at the Library of Congress website here.

1863 - Falmouth, Virginia. A muss at headquarters, Army of the Potomac.

I absolutely fell in love with this image when I found it.  It’s so rare to see such a candid and funny shot from this era.  When I got to working on it, I realized this image had something that no other image I have yet to find has, motion.  At first I thought it was warping, and it was a bit warped, but the movement you see is actually the movement of the soldiers.  The first image was taken, then the angled image was taken a split second later, with artistic and skilled timing.  In each side, the men move ever so slightly, blurring some areas and creating motion in the image.  I do hope to find more of these, it’s a wonderful effect and impressively creative stereoscopic photography.

What I never figured out is why in the world that guy on the right is digging a hole.

Thank goodness for the evolution of cool and comfortable clothing.  Several great old beach images here.  #16 looks suspiciously like bathing machines, but the clothing suggests perhaps a later era.

1896 - People on Razzle Dazzle ride, at Coney Island, New York City

Coney Island has so far upgraded this ride 16 times and it’s now known as the Rizzle Fashizzle.  It’s kinda scary, and if you look closely, you can see a guy standing in the center of the ride.  Wonder how fast it went… I did quite a bit of restoration to this image, and because it’s so grainy I decided on no heavy coloring, seems like it would obscure the details.

1903 - The Music prompts the dainty step (Woman playing piano and another woman dancing.)

Sometimes I’m tired after work, so I try to pick something easy.  That was the case with this image.  Unfortunately, sometimes I”m wrong.  If I never color another palm frond again I’ll be a happy happy girl.
