Stereoscope - Stereoscopic Images - Stereo Card - Stereograph - They are all different words used to convey the same idea. Stereo images are two nearly identical images taken from slightly different vantage points. Though the technology has changed through the years, the photos displayed here were commonly created with a stereoscopic camera. This was a camera that had two lenses with slightly different angles that could take two photos simotaniously. The images were then placed together on a single card and viewed with a special viewer like the one pictured above.
