1863 - Morris Island, South Carolina. The "rogue's march" drumming a thief out of camp.
The sign says something like, " THIEF. This man, Ben J. F. Ditcher, 55th Mass. Vol's (volunteers) STOLE MONEY from a wounded FRIEND".
Check out an 1800's article about being 'drummed out of camp' here, it wasn't a light sentence.
