1904 Worlds Fair, St. Louis Missouri - "Geronimo the Great Apache Chieftain 70 years old but still erect and haughty."

The bottom text area was sliced from the larger version, where it was spanning both images in the stereo card. Mexican soldiers attacked Geronimo's camp, killing his wife and three children. He fought fiercely for over a year against Mexican and U.S. soldiers and became famous for his escapes. He became a celebrity and was displayed in many fairs. He died in 1909 - five years after this photo - of pneumonia. Never allowed to return to his homeland, he died in oklahoma and was buried at the Apache PoW cemetery. It is widely believed the Yale society of Skull and Bones stole and still possess his skull. More on Geronimo here.
